religion without science is blind

I am an emotional being.  Not simply because I am female.  Not simply because I am an artist.  Though both tend to get a rap (good or bad) for leaning into life through the response of the heart and not the reason of the mind.  I won’t deny it’s true, as I do indeed like to lead with emotion, but find myself constantly drawn to the logic of truth upon which I base my emotions.  A healthy balance I hope.

Though today, while reading a book full of science and logic, constructive reasoning and proven theories,  matters of the mind with the intent of disregarding matters of the heart, I still found a way to well up with emotion.  The black letters on these crisp, cream colored pages became astoundingly clear.  A tall tale sign that a few salty sweet drops were cleaning the smudges from my worn-for-far-too-long contact lenses.  (You contact lens wearers will surely understand.)  I simply couldn’t help myself, because even in science it was clear… there was God.  And He’s perfectly beautiful.  The way in which he arranged the formation of the world to bring evidence to science and facts to prove theories.  There is no way of escaping Him, as hard as we might try.  To one like myself, where the heart is given the opportunity to respond to the mind, God and His proven existence becomes beautiful all over again.

“Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.”

~ Einstein

“Only a rookie who knows nothing about science would say science takes away from faith.  If you really study science, it will bring you closer to God.”

~ James Tour, Nanoscientist

“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream.  He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”

~ Robert Jastrom, Agnostic Astronomer

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

~ Paul (Romans)
