We’ve quit our jobs.

Thought I would repeat myself for just a moment, if you don’t mind.  A few days ago I posted a note on Lucrezio’s facebook page with a bit of news.  Seemed appropriate to add this tid-bit to the collection of “jennifer moments” that this blog is the keeper of.  With such a life change in tow, I hope to be able to share many more thoughts, ponderings, and musings with you :)

When telling individuals that we have stepped down from our positions at the church where we worked for the past three and a half years, I tend to feel that the news begs for an explanation.  Often times leaving a position means two things.  Either you were fired, or to speak more kindly, let go … or some sort of conflict arose that prompted you to make that drastic decision that says “I’m done.”  Well in our case, it’s neither.  Of course you probably weren’t wondering, now were you… :)

Well now just in case, I’ll attempt to appease your curiosity.  What was it really?  Who would confidently, and at the same time, wisely – assuming you’re in favor of wisdom – forfeit the safety net of a steady income, pay more for insurance at lesser coverage, sell a handful of belongings and a dearly loved home, meanwhile only to leave the jobs that have spoken to one’s passions?  Only those who know us most intimately will understand our decision in full, but the heart of it all comes down to this.  Our God, who we love more than life itself, is bringing us on a new adventure, and we’re saying YES.

By no means are we the first to sacrifice much for the pursuit of a career that weighs in at very little.  I personally have even been asked in the past why we haven’t done it already!  If the road of full-time musician has always been a dream, why wait?  Here’s how we see it.  Timing is everything, and the timing was never right until, well, now.  That certainly doesn’t mean we’re banking on a sudden catapult into musical success. This might be a short-lived season, full of long traveled miles, conversations with new friends, and intimate acoustic Lucrezio sets in cities we have never before been.  If only for a short time, we’re okay with that!  So don’t get too excited about being able to say “we knew them when!” (Although those words are rather flattering and humbling all at once, so thanks to those who have showered us with that phrase :))    Still, this is another journey, just as the rest has been.  The adventure only continues as we step into this new chapter, and so long as the thrill remains accompanied by wisdom, we really can’t fail.  Even if we find our savings depleted and ourselves without a home, we can’t fail.

So here’s to the adventure!  Sort of like… a storybook.  We hope you’ll join us, or for some, stick with us.  Just don’t go quitting your jobs on our account.
